How to Prepare For Going on Holiday as a Lash Tech
Plan Holidays in Advance
The more notice you can give your clients the better. Planning ahead will allow you to give your clients enough notice and avoid any problems. Look at the year ahead and see if you already have any holiday commitments, and if they have specific dates such as abroad weddings etc. Get these in both you and your clients' diaries as soon as possible and even offer advanced booking slots around your holiday time to ensure you can fit in all your regular clients. If there is no specific date or time for your holiday try to avoid peak periods. This is for your own benefit financially and for when clients are more likely to want your services such as Christmas and Valentines Day.
Let your Clients Know in Multiple Ways
- Tell them at their next appointment
- Send text reminders
- Put up posts and stories on social media
- Block out your diary on booking apps
- Send out an email or letter
- Have a sign in your salon/lash room
This will help prompt them to book their appointments in advance or at least remind them so they are aware and have no excuses! You may choose to offer additional slots before or after your holiday to be able to fit clients in. However, if you don't want to do this, set clear boundaries. Remind clients of how many spaces you have left and you can even update them when all your availability is gone, so they know they will not be able to get a booking.

Refer Clients to Another Lash Tech
Common practise in the eyelash industry is to recommend another lash technician to your clients when you can't fit them in for appointments. This is also great for if you are on holiday or away for longer periods of time where clients will need to go to someone else for infills. At first the idea might seem scary, sending your clients to a potential competitor, but it can work great if you are both referring your regulars to each other when taking time off. Just remember to refer them to someone you trust and consider factors for your client such as the other lash technicians location, prices, style of work etc.
Budget for your Break
If you are a self-employed lash technician you probably won't get paid when you are away, so budgeting for your breaks is essential. Like mentioned above you may offer additional appointments around your holiday to try to earn more income. You could also consider hiring another lash technician to work for you, so when you take time off you could still earn some money. Another great way to keep earning money as a lash technician whilst you are away is to retail products. You could offer gift cards for your services, offer packages, or even stock and resell products. Here at Pinkfishes we offer a variety of retail products that lash technicians can bulk buy and resell onto clients with a profit margin. Ideal products include aftercare kits, serum, brow balm and more. Having a website which clients could purchase from or a booking system such as timely will allow you to maintain a cashflow whilst away from your work.

Get your Business Admin in Order
Before you go away on holiday there may be a variety of business admin jobs to take care of before you go. Don't leave your clients hanging -set up auto responses on your voicemail, social media and emails so that when clients try to contact you they know you aren't ignoring them, you are just away and will get back to them on your return. This is why it is also a good idea to have a booking system such as timely as clients could still book their appointments online whilst you are away rather than directly through you! You also want to make sure you are stocked up on all your lash products. The last thing you want when coming back from holiday is to realise you have run out of glue! Check your stock levels and order any products you may need before you go away.
