What are Lash Extension Tweezers?

Eyelash Extension Tweezers are a key instrument in carrying out lash extension treatments, most lash techs use two tweezers at the same time, one in each hand to isolate, fan and place lashes. Available in a wide variation of different shapes, sizes, weights and designs, lash extension tweezers have been developed to function for various purposes and lash extension types. The choice of tweezers used comes down to personal preference, and what tweezer works for someone else may not be best suited to yourself, so understanding the benefits and features of each extension tweezer is essential. At Pinkfishes, we offer 13 different variations of tweezer, 8 Fibre-Tip and 5 Elite, each with their own specific purpose and benefits, so that you can find tweezers that work best for you in whichever lash extension treatments you offer!

Different Purpose Tweezers

Isolation Tweezers

Isolating, in Lash terms, is the process of singling out each natural lash individually, for the purpose of applying a fan or classic lash extension. As most people have approximately between 90 - 160 natural lashes per eye, this process requires skill, patience, and a precise pair of tweezers for ease!

We recommend the following tweezers for isolation;

Straight Fibre Tip - a simple, effective option for isolating, designed with a thin tip for precise isolation. The straight tip allows you to see exactly what you're doing without the angle getting in the way, straight tweezers are one of our best selling isolation tweezers.

Elite Straight Curved- a great transition tweezer from training with/previously using straight tweezers for isolation. The slight curve helps you reach the lash line more comfortably, especially on inner and outer corners, without awkward hand positioning.

Angled Fibre Tip - a slightly angled tip to get in to the base of the lashes without need for hand strain or slant. The slanted tip helps guide surrounding lashes away while isolating one cleanly, reducing the chance of stickies. They’re particularly helpful for clients with deep-set eyes, hooded lids, or strong brow bones, where straight tweezers can feel awkward.

Curved Fibre Tip - similar to the Angled Fibre-Tip, this tweezer offers a more elongated, angled tip, allowing for precise isolation with less hand strain. The curve helps keep your hand slightly out of the way, giving you a clearer view when isolating a single lash.

The type of tweezer that works best will vary from lash tech to lash tech, depending on factors such as which tweezers they trained with and which weight they work best with. Often, student lash techs will train with a straight tweezer, then begin experimenting with other styles once they feel confident with the basics.

Fanning Tweezers

When choosing a tweezer best suited for creating fans, a key component to look for is good grip, allowing for even the finest of lashes to be taken from the strip and fanned, without losing its hold. This is why Pinkfishes tweezers are hand tested before being sent to our customers to ensure good quality grip. Many lash extension tweezers are suitable for creating and applying fans, but here are some of our top picks for seamless fan creation and application:

Volume Fibre Tip & Elite Volume - This shaped tweezer is our best selling for fan making purposes. The wider tip allows better control when spreading the lashes, helping you create symmetrical, even fans whilst also supporting different fanning techniques.

Elite Slim-L Shape - a favourite shape tweezer for fanning. The almost 90-degree angle allows for exceptional grip, and the thin, precise tip assists in creating perfectly controlled, even fans. The slim tip allows you to pick up lashes very accurately, which is perfect for creating smaller, more detailed fans.

Picking & Placing Tweezers

Similarly to when choosing a fanning tweezer, exceptional grip is essential for choosing a tweezer for picking & placing, e.g: for Classic or Pre-Made Angel lash extensions. Having a stable biting point and solid tip grip will assist with both picking and applying lash extensions, and both of our tweezer collections are designed with unique inner tips to aid this.

We have selected some of our top picks and best sellers for picking and placing:

Precision Fibre Tip - the precise tip makes the picking and placement process of classic or similar lashes simple and improves accuracy.

Micro Fibre Tip - similarly to the Precision tweezer, this slim, precise tweezer is perfect for intricate lash application.

Curved Fibre Tip - These tweezers have a larger surface area so better for fan placement, as well as classic application. The curve follows the eye shape allowing for more natural hand positioning so great for placing lashes without awkward angles.

Which eyelash tweezers should I use to remove eyelash extensions?

As well as the isolation and application during a lash extension treatment, tweezers can also be used during the removal process, more specifically when using the banana peel method. This technique uses tweezers to manually peel away and detach the lash extension from the natural lash, without causing damage to the natural lashes or surrounding lash extensions, and is a preferred method when carrying out an infill treatment. It is an effective way of removing individual outgrown lash extensions without applying a remover that could potentially remove other extensions unintentionally, before proceeding to apply new extensions. The banana-peel eyelash removal method can also be used in conjunction with using remover solutions such as Pink Crème or Pink Liquefy, effectively removing stubborn lashes that the remover won't budge!

This method involves the use of 2 tweezers; one to isolate and take hold of the natural lash, and one to grip onto and peel away the lash extension attached to the natural lash. Having tweezers with strong grip is essential to make this removal process more simple and smooth-sailing, and will assist to prevent any damage to the natural lashes.

(Diagram of the banana peel method)

For the banana peel removal, many lash techs use two tweezers (usually straight) to isolate the natural lash and (fine tip or curved) to gently peel the extension away. Avoid bulky and wide tip tweezers to avoid grabbing too many lashes as this process is very delicate.

How to clean Lash Extension Tweezers

Properly sanitising and disinfecting tweezers between uses is imperative to prevent the spread of infections or cross contamination. Plus for removing any glue or other solutions from the tweezer to maintain good grip and function. Additionally, depending on your location, the law or government guidelines may state a level of sanitation as a legal requirement, so as a reputable business, tweezer cleaning is essential. Ensuring your tweezers are properly sanitised will also allow for longer durability of the tweezers, so we can't stress enough how important this process is as a lash technician! Lash extension tweezers should be cleaned in-between each appointment, before and after each appointment, and at the end of a working day to ensure proper sanitation.

Excess Glue Removal - NOT Disinfecting

When cleaning any lash tweezer, removing any excess glue is important before continuing the full sanitisation process. Excess glue on the tweezer during appointments can weaken the grip of the extensions, and in Fibre-Tip Tweezers, get into the indents of the inner tip. For mishaps like this during a treatment, our Tweezer Cleaner paired with Lint-Free Glue Wipes can be used to efficiently remove glue from the tweezers, so you can swiftly continue with the lash extensions in progress. Simply submerge the tweezers in the cleaner for 3-5 minutes, before removing them from the solution and wiping/drying off with a Lint-Free Glue Wipe.

Please note that whilst our Tweezer Cleaner is efficient in removing glue from the tweezers, it does NOT act as a disinfectant, and tweezers cleaned using solely this product will not be fully clean and sanitised.

Disinfecting/Sterilising

We recommend Barbicide, or another medical-grade disinfectant. For instructions on how to effectively use these, please see instructions on the chosen disinfectant solution, some solutions may recommend extended periods of time to let the tweezers soak that may not align with your next clients' appointment time, so we recommend always having a spare of each tweezer so that you can continue lashing whilst your other tweezers are soaking, with no inconvenience or delays.

After any tweezer cleaning process, ensure that the tweezers are fully dry to avoid any discolouration, rusting or liquid coming into contact with the client.

Which tweezers are for me?

The variation of lash tweezers on the market is extensive, so it can be hard and sometimes daunting to know which tweezers to choose, and which will work best for you. In making this decision, it is important to consider the differing benefits of various tweezer collections, how and what you work well with or struggle with in terms of tweezers currently, and the lash extension treatments that you offer. It is common that the generic tweezers that you train with may not be the best fit for you, and finding tools that compliment your technique can assist ease of treatments, improving application and fanning methods.

Which tweezer will work best for someone else may not be the best tweezer for you, so we recommend experimenting and trialling various styles - at Pinkfishes' shop based in Chelmsford, Essex, feel free to come and try out our range of tweezers to get the feel for your perfect match!
