In this blog we will cover the many different lash curls available in the industry, when and what eye shapes to use each curl on, combining lash curls for different looks and what lashes you should stock as a Lash Technician.
What Different Lash Curls are there?
At Pinkfishes we stock a variety of curls to suit different lash techs needs, including the following curls: J, B, C, CC, D, U & M curls (In order from least curly, J, to most curly, M).
There are also many other curls available that you may or may not be familiar with, such as: I, JC, C+, DD, D+, L, L, LC, LD Curl and more!
We know sometimes it might be a little overwhelming looking for the right curls to stock in your salon, so we are here to help you figure out which are the best to stock and the most popular curls.
Being a Lash Artist you always want to be able to offer everything that your clients desire, however when building up your range of lashes there are SO many curls, colours, thicknesses and lengths to choose from, that it would be near impossible to stock every type of lash.

J Curl Lash Extensions:
What is a J Curl Lash Extension: J curl is the least curly lash that we stock at Pinkfishes. They are great to create super natural, light sets of lashes as they have a very straight base with a slight curl at the tip.
When would you use a J Curl: You would use a J curl for any clients that are looking for the most natural set of extensions, maybe just to add a very subtly curl or additional length to their lashes. J curls will create the most perfect set of 'barely there' lashes. They would suit Almond eyes very nicely and will work well with clients who have upward natural lashes as this will enhance the lift of the J curl. J curls can also be used for bottom lashes as they are straighter than other curls and most natural looking if this is something your client is looking for.
What J Curls do we stock at Pinkfishes: At Pinkfishes we stock J curls in 0.25, 0.15 & 0.10 thicknesses in mixed length trays, and 0.07 & 0.05 thickness in individual length trays ranging from 7mm - 15mm & mixed trays.
B Curl Lash Extensions:
What is a B Curl Lash Extension: B curls are just slightly more curly than a J curl, but are still very natural and will give a subtle curl.
When would you use a B Curl: B curls will be suitable for most eye shapes and should be used on clients that are looking for something that will gently enhance their natural lashes. Similar to J curls, B curls would be good to use on clients with Almond eyes that also have naturally straight lashes or slightly curly natural lashes. B curls are great to use on the inner corners of the eyes and for bottom lashes.

C Curl Lash Extensions:
What is a C Curl Lash Extension: C curl is arguably THE most popular lash curl used in the industry, as it is one of the original curls and it can be used for a wide variety of clients making it very versatile.
When would you use a C Curl: C curls are great as they can be used for a very natural set of Classic lashes or they could be used for a fuller, more dramatic set of Russian lashes. C curls are good to use on clients with naturally downturned lashes to enhance the lift and can pretty much be used on most eye shapes! C curls are great to use for natural lash maps, or Cat Eye lash map.

CC Curl Lash Extensions:
What is a CC Curl Lash Extension: CC curls are in-between a C & D curl and are definitely becoming a Lash Tech favourite! CC curls will beautifully enhance your clients' natural lashes and make them pop!
When would you use a CC Curl: CC curls are PERFECT for clients that want a little more lift, what makes them great is they can be used on clients with both straight or curlier natural lashes. CC curls are a very versatile curl and can be used for most lash maps and eye shapes. They are great to open up smaller eyes, or to even use on the outer corner of downturned eyes to lift them.
What CC Curls do we stock at Pinkfishes: At Pinkfishes we stock CC curls in Flat Lash Mixed Length Trays in 0.20 & 0.15, Standard Russian Trays in 0.07, 0.05 & 0.03 in both mixed length trays and individual length trays from 8mm - 20mm.

D Curl Lash Extensions:
What is a D Curl Lash Extension: D curls are for those clients that like all eyes on them... Although they can be used to create super dramatic sets of lashes they can also be used to create light and fluffy sets too, as you can see in the image below!
When would you use a D Curl: As D curls are more curly than our C & CC curls, you will find that they may not be suitable to use on all clients, for example clients with monolid/hooded eye shapes will be more suited to an M or C curl as they won't curl back and touch your clients eyelid, whereas a D curl most likely would.

U Curl Lash Extensions:
What is a U Curl Lash Extension: U curls are one of our most dramatic curls available to buy at Pinkfishes - they are for all your dramatic lash loving clients looking for a very noticeable set of lashes as you can see in the below image!
When would you use a U Curl: U curls are great to use on clients with more downward-facing natural lashes to give them the beautiful lift they desire, however they are not ideal for clients with monolid/hooded eyes as they will not leave enough space between the lash extension and the eyelid and may potentially curl back onto the clients eyelid and cause discomfort.
What U Curls we stock at Pinkfishes: At Pinkfishes we stock U curls in Standard Classic & Russian Trays in 0.25, 0.20, 0.15, 0.10, 0.07, 0.05 & 0.03 in both mixed length trays and individual length trays from 7mm - 20mm. *lengths dependent on thickness.
We also stock U curls in Easy-fan lashes in both a Standard size Trays and XL Trays in 0.07, 0.05 & 0.03.

M Curl Lash Extensions:
What is a M Curl Lash Extension: M curls are a very prominent curl as they have a flat base but then a dramatic 90°-100° angled curl, giving your clients an extreme lift. M curls are often used to create eyeliner and 'foxy' eye lash sets, as you can see in the image below. They are a beautiful curl and have become increasingly popular in the lash industry following recent lash trends!
When would you use a M Curl: M curl lashes are great to use on clients with straight natural lashes and monolid/hooded eye shapes. They will suit most clients and eye shapes, but as M curls come straight out and curl in an upward direction, this is especially great to use to cover monolid eyelids and hooded eyes. They also have amazing retention due to their straight/flat base which means a greater surface area is attached to the natural lash.
What M Curls do we stock at Pinkfishes: At Pinkfishes we stock M curls in Standard Russian Lash Trays in 0.07, 0.05 & 0.03 in both mixed length trays and individual length trays from 6mm - 17mm.

Using a combination of curls:
Using a combination of lash curls can be great to create a perfectly uniformed set of lashes, especially if your client has any imperfections across their lash line.
For example; if your client's lashes are curlier in the centre and straighter at the end you can use a combination of C & D curls or C & CC curls to create a uniform lash line and lift the straighter lashes on the end.
Here we have an example using C curl lashes on the inner corners and throughout the centre and using D curls to lift the end of the eye line:

You can also mix certain curls to achieve different results, here are a few of our favourite Pinkfishes curl combos:

C curl on the inners and outer corners, with D curl across the centre to open the eyes

C curl on the inners and CC curl across the eye to create a more dramatic lift at the end of the eye

C curl a quarter way across the eye starting from the inner corner, M curl from the inner centre to outer corner to create a beautiful ‘foxy’ lash set
What curls should I stock?
The most popular lash curls at Pinkfishes are C, CC & D curls, as you can use these curls on various eye shapes and natural lashes to create different style lash sets. These three curls are versatile and will be suitable for many different clients.
To know which curls to stock in your salon, you will need to identify your clientele and recognise what curls are most popular for your specific clients. You might have one client with hooded eyes that requests M curls for their appointment, meaning you should stock at least all the lengths of M curls you need to complete their set. If you are just starting out it's great to buy mixed length trays in different curls and thicknesses so you can try and test them out. If only one client gets a particular curl then stocking mixed boxes will also be wise in this scenario.
Younger clients tend to go for the curlier lashes (D curls are very popular amongst younger clientele). Older clientele may prefer a more natural, less curly set of lashes so it might be good to stock B/C curls. If most of your clientele request similar lashes we would recommend buying individual lengths as it will become more cost effective if you are regularly using the same curls, as you will go through certain lengths quicker than others. On the other hand if you have a mix of clientele you will more than likely have to stock a larger variety of curls and lengths.
One way to get a good understanding of your client's preferences will be during your consultation before you perform the treatment. This is a great way to see what they are looking for, what lash styles would suit their eye shape and then you can buy stock from there. Some may request specific curls/lengths if they know what they want, and some may give you a rough idea of how they want their lashes to be and it will be your responsibility to stock and provide the correct lengths and curls to ensure your client receives their desired set of lashes.
This is where it is good to get in some mixed boxes as this will enable you to guarantee you always have the correct curls available for your clients. Alternatively order specific trays for new clients after their initial consultation, but be careful as existing clients may want to change up their usual style so it is always handy to have a few different curls in stock.
