Top Tips for Beginners from Pinkfishes Brand Ambassadors
Are you a budding lash technician eager to make your mark in the beauty industry? Whether you're just starting out or looking to refine your skills, embarking on the journey of becoming a lash tech can be both exciting and challenging. To help you navigate this path successfully, we have pulled together some valuable tips from our Brand Ambassadors. Pinkfishes Brand Ambassadors are a mixture between newer lash techs and lash techs who have been lashing for years! They work closely with us to help build and grow the Pinkfishes Brand, by using and promoting our products through their own channels. They are also the first people to try out Pinkfishes newest products, and review them. We have asked them to give us their top tips and advice for those starting out in the industry:
1. Research Popular Curls and Sizes
2. Master Classic Lashes First
3. Experiment with Fan-Making Techniques
4. Quality Over Speed
5. Consistent Advertising
Promote your lash services consistently to attract new clients and maintain a steady flow of appointments. Utilise social media platforms, such as Instagram and TikTok to showcase your work - regularly uploading photos and reels. This will help potential clients gain trust and encourage them to book in with you. Engage with your audience, and remind followers about your availability. Even a simple daily post on your story can help keep your services top-of-mind for potential clients. Another good tool to encourage new clients to book in with you is by advertising sales and deals on your social media. For example, you could offer 10% OFF for new clients, or seasonal deals around events such as 'Black Friday'. Just keep in mind that you don't want to under value your services by discounting too often and showing too much availability may also be off putting for potential clients so try to advertise 'Limited' availability instead.
A free tool that you can use to promote your company is Google My Business. You can create a business profile with all of your information (contact number, website, location, etc.) and ask customers to review your services so they appear publicly. This will make your business easily searchable to new potential clients and will make them feel more comfortable booking in.

6. Embrace Constructive Feedback
Welcome feedback from mentors, peers, and clients as valuable opportunities for growth. Constructive criticism can offer insights into areas for improvement and help you refine your techniques. Embrace feedback as a catalyst for progress rather than letting it deter your confidence. If you are already a qualified lash tech, you can book in for a 1-1 mentoring session with one of the Pinkfishes Trainers. In these sessions you can go through anything you are struggling with or anything in particular that you would like to learn. Additionally, if you have booked in with us for a course (Classic, Russian, or Combined) in the last 3 months, you can book in for a mentoring session with us for free!
7. Invest in Ongoing Education
8. Prioritise Quality Products
Resist the temptation to cut corners by purchasing budget lash products. Always invest in high-quality, professional-grade tools and products from reputable suppliers. A great tip from our ambassadors is to ensure that you check the reviews of the brand and products before purchasing from them. For example, Pinkfishes have over 700 5* reviews across Google Reviews and Reviews.io from verified customers. Additionally good suppliers should be able to provide Material Safety Data Sheets for their liquids, you can view Pinkfishes MSDS sheets which includes information such as ingredients, potential hazards, etc. Superior quality products not only yield better results but also contribute to the retention and safety of your clients' lash extensions.
9. Value Your Time and Expertise
Respect the value of your time and expertise by setting clear boundaries and policies. When clients arrive with minimal lashes left for an infill, consider charging them for a full set to compensate for the additional time and effort required. Establishing fair and transparent pricing practices reinforces the worth of your services and ensures mutual respect between you and your clients.
10. Invest in an Online Booking System
Leading on from this, another beneficial tool for lash techs is an online booking system. This can save you time which you can then spend lashing and earning money instead and this not only looks more official, but is much easier for customers to use as they can see the price, length of appointment and your availability instantly, without having to contact you and wait for a response. Some recommended platforms from our ambassadors for this are Goldie and Timely.
Embarking on a career as a lash technician requires dedication, patience, and a commitment to continuous learning and improvement. By following these tips and staying true to your passion for lash artistry, you'll be well-equipped to thrive in the competitive beauty industry and establish your brand.
